Jersey Devil // Second Print
I found this young buck skull during a hike with my son around the quarry behind our house. This was my first time revisiting my “Signs of Life” series (still lifes featuring found skulls, bones and feathers) after 5 years. I had this shot set up in my garage using the natural light that came in through the back door. Not long after I finished shooting, my son blindly tossed his basketball into the garage. It landed directly on the skull breaking it into pieces.
I didn’t make the first print until 3 years later when The Mix, in Frenchtown, put out a request for submissions, themed “The Jersey Devil”, for their October 2023 Jeepers Creepers show.
2020 / Stockton, NJ
The frame is made from an old stock of rough sawn tongue and groove pine that was left over from a barn renovation in Pipersville, PA.
Giclee print on velvet fine art paper: 5” X 7”
Frame Size: 7.25” X 9.25”
