Heron // First Print
It was July and we were visiting friends in Maryland. We had spent the afternoon hanging at their swim club which was located within a marina. I had parked the car right in front of a dock overlooking the water. At the end of the day, when we were about to pull out of our spot, I noticed this heron standing directly in front of us. She was perched atop a pylon, standing completely still, glowing in the sinking sun against a seamless backdrop of a gradating sky. But it had been a long day. We were all tired and hungry, the kids were all buckled in, my camera was packed up in the back, and the engine was running. Do I continue to back up and drive away or do I put it in park and take advantage of the quintessential birding opportunity that was bestowed upon me?
